New Delhi: Dieting, training for hours, cycling or even running marathons – people try all the tricks when it comes to losing weight. According to popular belief, it takes several hours of training and lots of dieting to lose weight and achieve an ideal body mass index (BMI). However, according to nutrition expert Dr. Michael Mosley, who made the 5:2 diet famous, there is a simple trick to burning a plethora of calories, and it’s as effective as running 10 marathons. Keep reading.

According to Dr. Mosley, by simply standing on your feet, you can burn many calories and lose weight effectively. In a podcast, the expert explained how intense workouts can be replaced with simpler alternatives for weight loss – and one of the most effective tricks is to simply stand instead of sit for hours to lower blood sugar and boost metabolism to lose weight.

How does standing help with weight loss?

During a podcast, the expert said that instead of going for a walk with your dog or performing squats, weight loss can start simply by standing on two feet. An extremely simple trick, it’s an accessible, equipment-free way to lose weight for those who struggle to find time to sweat it out in the gym.

At a time when millions of people across countries are working from home, the likelihood of sitting in one place without any form of movement is too high. This, Dr. Mosley explained, can be extremely detrimental to health. The constant gravitational pull of sitting has a negative impact on bone density. In addition, it can reduce the benefits of workouts when standing up.

And that’s not where the stories of risk associated with sitting too long end – the same activity is also linked to a high risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease and even risk of early death.

Is there a way to instill standing in heavy office work?

Dr. Mosley did not recommend getting up every five minutes to lose weight. instead, doing it every hour for two to three minutes can improve cognitive health and reduce waist circumference at the same time. Just doing it for a week, he said, can have significant overall health benefits. This can be practiced while taking phone calls or investing in standing desks – standing for a while can flush excess sugar from your body.

A simple, no-equipment, standing exercise can increase heart rate over a year and burn the same amount of calories as running 10 marathons. Therefore, Dr. Mosley recommends this simple trick, without moving your feet, to lose weight. However, it is important not to stand for too long as this can increase the risk of developing flat feet in the long term.
