To find out which cities are the best for mental health, turf company LawStarter compared more than 190 of America’s largest cities by looking at 33 metrics, including access to green spaces (like parks and trails), mental health resources, meditation classes and urban planning. gardens, as well as the cost of living and even the average level of sleep of the people who live there. While LawnStarter pointed out that people in San Fransisco tend to go overboard when it comes to overwork, they make up for it with a healthy lifestyle and access to mental health resources. Next on the list is Bellevue, Washington, followed by Alexandria, Va., two cities “full of therapists” as well as financially stable, healthy and well-rested adults, according to LawnStarter. Alexandria also topped the rankings for its access to exercise classes and gyms.
The eighth best city in the United States for mental health? Irvine, California, followed by Fort Collins, Colorado, a city with wide access to therapy. Fort Collins also emerged as the “most rested city” on the list. Since working long hours and having limited sleep is bad for your brain, it makes perfect sense that this is such a deciding factor.
The number 10 spot goes to Santa Rosa, Calif., which also gets top marks for its laid-back vibe.
