SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB / WSHM) – As children return to school, it’s important to make sure they stay safe. We heard from Dr. Chrystal Wittcopp, medical director of general pediatrics at Baystate Health.
What can parents do to make sure their children stay healthy?
It is very important to check the emotional and mental health of your child. Seeing how they are doing, making sure they are getting enough sleep and rest is really important, proper hydration and proper nutrition to help them overcome these anxious feelings. From a physical point of view, any child able to be vaccinated from the age of 12 should be vaccinated, which will be important to protect them against COVID, by making sure that they mask themselves, wash their hands well. and avoid large, crowded indoor spaces.
What advice do you have for teachers?
We know COVID has had a huge emotional impact on children from a mental health perspective. Classroom health safety advice: children must wear masks when they are inside, wash their hands well. Have the school nurse assess children who sneeze or cough.
