Minneapolis, Minn. – The No. 5/6 Golden Gopher women’s hockey team scored three power-play goals on four occasions to secure a 3-0 victory over Minnesota State in Game 1 of the home and away series. this weekend at the Ridder Arena Friday night.
Minnesota (2-3-0) enjoyed a power play, scoring their first three of the season on four occasions. All three goals came from Maroon and Gold’s top line, one in each period. Madeline Wethington tapped into a rebound in the opening period for his first of the season. Gracie Ostertag also landed its first of the season with a point explosion in the second. Taylor heise finished the scoring with his 100th career point in his 100th career game.
Makayla pahl managed his first career shutout in his first start of the season, stopping all 14 shots faced. The Gophers dominated in shots 47-14. Mavericks goaltender Calla Frank blocked 44 of 47 shots.
“Full performance here tonight,” head coach said Brad frost. “I thought our team played well for 60 minutes from the net. Makayla pahl with his first shutout and Taylor heise with his 100th career point. The power play was really good after struggling a bit. Our shorthand was also very good, so it’s good to win the special teams battle and win in all three phases. Happy with the victory and looking forward to tomorrow. “
Taylor heise recorded his 100th career point in his 100th career game. Makayla pahl had his first shutout in his career. Norcross Savannah played his 100th career game (95 with Boston College). Ella Huber recorded his first multi-point game.
The Gophers travel to Mankato to wrap up this weekend’s home series at 4:00 p.m. CT Saturday at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center.
