Since the age of 16, Demi Lovato has used her body to document the highs and lows of her life as a superstar musician and recovering drug addict via tattoos and body art. The singer has over 20 tattoos at this point and is constantly adding meaningful bits of ink to his collection, most of which are references to their journey through sobriety while others, like the tattoo of the head of a spider that they debuted earlier this year—have more spiritual meanings.
Demi got her first tattoo at 16, and they explained in an interview with iHeartRadio in 2014 that they did it in “a tattoo artist’s apartment” as a way to rebel. “It was so sketchy, it was in LA, but I wanted to get a tattoo so badly,” they said.
From there, they added over 20 different tattoos to their ever-growing collection on various parts of their bodies. Most people are familiar with the large lion tattoo that sits on their right hand, although they have tons of others that are pretty sick, including a fallen angel in the middle of their back, a giant dreamcatcher on their ribcage and even a portrait of their late dog, mate.
